Good Morning Seattle

Guten Morgen aus einem verregneten Seattle. Wir haben richtig gut geschlafen und sind schon gegen 6h00 aufgewacht. Dies haben wir genutzt und sind zum berühmten Pike Place Market gegangen um uns das morgendlich Treiben auf dem Fischmarkt anzuschauen. Mit einem Starbucks Kaffee in der Hand ging es auf den Markt und Richtung Waterfront. Der Geruch von leckeren Backwaren hat uns zur Pyroshki Pyroshki Bakery gebracht, wo Marcus sich eine Apfel-Zimt-Schnecke zum Frühstück gegönnt hat. Nun sind wir bei Paul & Linnea und planen unsere nächsten Tage bevor es heute zum Mittagessen mit Marcus' Onkel geht und einem Tag an der Waterfront.

Good morning from a wet and rainy Seattle. We had a good night's sleep and were up and about by 7 a.m. this morning. Time to explore the early morning activity at Pike Place market with a warm cup of coffee in our hands. We also had a delicious apple cinnamon roll from Pyroshki Pyroshki Bakery. Katrin enjoyed the market and got a first rough orientation of Seattle. The next hour we will do some rough planning for the upcoming days before we meet with "our lawyer" for lunch. The afternoon is planned down at the waterfront.

Landed

Nach etwas mehr als 10h Flug sind wir gut in Seattle gelandet. Katrin hat ca. 1h durch die Immigration gebraucht und durfte ein Photo sowie alle 10 Fingerabdruecke da lassen. Abgeholt wurden wir von Linnea und waren mit ihr noch im PCC Natural Market. Fuer uns sehr interessant war die riesen grosse Auswahl von Gewuerzen und Nuessen und Curries zum selbst abwiegen und verpacken. Im Moment sind wir bei Linnea und Paul zu Hause, kochen gemeinsam und haben einen wunderschoenen Blick ueber die Innenstadt von Seattle aus dem 19. Stock ihres Wohnhauses. Wir sehen sogar die Olympic Mountains und der Puget Sound liegt uns zu Fuessen.

After a 10 hour flight we landed safely in Seattle. Left in grey rainy weather and arrived in grey rainy weather - the captain said "typical for Seattle". Let's prove him wrong these coming weeks.
The flight itself was uneventful. A lot of clouds and we could only get a few views of Greenland this time around. Once in Seattle Katrin needed over an hour to get through immigration. We had two Korean and one French load in front of us.
Meanwhile we are sitting at Linnea and Paul's place enjoying the view over Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. We'll meet with Uncle Clem tomorrow for lunch. Sounds good!

Ready for takeoff

Wir sitzen gerade im Hotel und werden jetzt frühstücken gehen. Die Bordkarten haben wir bereits und brauchen nun nur noch das Gepäck abgeben. Wir wollen den Bus um 9h15 zum Airport nehmen. Boarding ist um 11h05, Take-off um 11h50 local.

We're about to grab some breakfast. We printed our boarding cards yesterday so we only have to drop off our luggage. Boarding is at 11h05 and takeoff at 11h50. See you in the States!

Katrin and I are just now getting ready to catch the train to Frankfurt. Tomorrow morning we'll be flying to Seattle. Our blog is active again for the next few weeks. Please feel free to follow our travels and post some comments!

Katrin und ich sind gerade in den letzten Vorbereitungen für die Abreise. In hoffentlich 2 Stunden sitzen wir im Zug nach Frankfurt, von wo aus wir morgen früh direkt nach Seattle fliegen werden. Marcus wins the gliding competition

Marcus managed to win the 46th International Hotzenwald Gliding competition. More information can be found at the Competition's blog.

This blog is active again. Marcus is up at the airfield preparing for a gliding competition which starts tomorrow. First guests from the Netherlands have arrived and we are awaiting some more from Switzerland, northern Germany and Bavaria to arrive today.

Marcus is ready to go and will compete in the 18m class. We'll try to update results on this page during the competition.

After the competition Katrin and Marcus are leaving directly for Seattle to relax, travel and enjoy the summer!
