Penguins

After 12 days of trekking things suddenly happen really fast. The following day we catch a bus from Puerto Natales to Punta Arenas which is our southern most point of the trip. We check in to our hostel, have some time for a quick lunch and then we are off to Seno Otway to see the penguins. Unfortunately the boat out to Isla Magdalena with the much larger penguin colony was already completely sold out - high season we reckon.

Anyway, we still had a great time seeing Nandus on our way out, having beautiful lighting over the Seno Otway (Otway Sound) and of course watching the cute penguins come home from their day out fishing.

Auf einmal geht alles ganz schnell. Direkt am naechsten Morgen nach unserem Trek geht es per Bus nach Punta Arenas. Wir checken im Hostel ein, haben noch kurz Zeit fuer ein Sandwich und dann geht es schon raus zum Seno Otway, um die Pinguine zu beobachten. Leider war das Boot fuer die Isla Magdalena schon voll. Die Isla Magdalena ist eine viel groessere Pinguinkolonie auf einer Insel in der Magellanstrasse.

Aber Seno Otway war auch toll. Auf der Hinfahrt treffen wir ein paar Nandus - das sind Strauss aehnliche Voegel, die in der patagonischen Pampa leben. Und dann koennen wir natuerlich als Highlight die Pinguine beobachten, wie sie von ihrem Tag im Meer zueruckkommen, sich am Strand trocknen und dann in Reih und Glied zur Pinguinhoehle laufen - einfach nur suess....
