Valparaiso

Valparaiso als eine der groessten Hafenstaedte von Chile hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Die Stadt erstreckt sich komplett auf ca. 40 Huegel und die Haeuser sind bunt angemalt. Das Haus von dem Literaturnobelpreistraeger Pablo Neruda konnten wir leider nicht anschauen, da es geschlossen war. Unser Hostel war im Viertel Bellavista gelegen, die Strassen und Hauswaende mit Mosaiken und Bildern bunt gestaltet. Von hier oben hatten wir auch einen wunderschoenen Blick ueber die Stadt, die Bucht und den Hafen. Auch die kleinen steilen Standseilbahnen haben wir ausprobiert.

Valparaíso is one of Chile's largest ports and it is famous for it colored houses placed neatly on the hillsides surrounding the bay. Furthermore, Valparaíso also features so called "ascensores" which are basically rail mounted cable cars that easily get you up and down the mountain.

We spent two days in Valp0 (as the locals call it) and wandered around the artist's quarters, enjoying the views and the sunshine before we finally left Valpo on a 17 hour bus ride to get to Patagonia.
