Unser Flug von Lima nach Cusco hat leider nicht viel Sicht auf Peru geboten, da alles von Wolken verdeckt war. Mit einem spektakulären Anflug auf das 3.400 m hoch in den Bergen gelegene Cusco und eine sehr schöne Fahrt über das Hochtal nach Ollantayambo lassen unsere Tage in Peru und Macchu Picchu super beginnen.
Ollantyambo ist die einzige noch lebendige Stadt im Stile der Inkas. Die Häuser sind relativ klein und gemütlich, durch die Gassen fliesst überall richtig viel Wasser und es gibt einen traumhaft Blick auf die Ruinen. Wir haben ein wunderschönes Hostel "Case de Wow" gefunden und haben uns spontan entschlossen 3 Tage hier an diesem ruhigen Ort zu verbringen.
Morgen schauen wir uns vor Ort die Ruinen an und übermorgen geht es mit dem Perurail-Zug zum Macchu Picchu.

Hola Peru, hola naturaliza. We are finally out of the big cities and into the countryside. Our flight from Lima to Cusco was uneventful. However, the approach and landing at Cusco`s 3.400 mNN high airport is really great. Being surrounded by mountains, the plane has to fly a pattern around the mountains, revealing the runway only at the very last instance.
From Cusco we took a Collectivo to Ollantayambo in the "Sacred Valley" of Urubamba - and we have immediately fallen in love with this place. The valley is of undescribable, absolute stunning beauty - and the town is a nice, easy going, nearly car free mountain village. We spontaneously decided to stay here for 3 days.
Ollanta (as the locals call it) is the only remaining "alive Inca village". So tomorrow we will hike to some old Inca housings before we hit Macchu Picchu on Saturday. We are hoping that the weather will remain as beautiful as it has been today.
